Machine meritocracy has arrived. The authors discuss issues of fairness, inclusion, and governance in this article. Is it possible to survive with the current Magna Carta or do we need a new one?
This is a crucial moment in society's digital future. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful technology that has emerged from the ashes of its predecessors, thanks to advancements in neural networks, loosely based on the human brain. AI can identify patterns in large unstructured data sets and improve performance as more data becomes available. It can also quickly identify objects and make better recommendations while minimising interference by complicated, politically-minded humans. This raises important questions about how AI will be able to choose and include humans in the future. How will all income levels and power levels be represented and engaged by humans? How will we manage this brave new world that is machine meritocracy and its many facets?
It is the balance between the ever-increasing strength of the new potentate, the intelligent machine, and the human power that is at stake. Machines will continue to create more value and reduce human control over design and decision making in a world that is increasingly automated. The way we live and work is changing. Our creation is moving faster than we can count the laps.
This is not just about jobs and economics. In every aspect of our lives, machines are beginning to make decisions for ourselves without our conscious participation. Machines can recognize our past patterns as well as those of others around the globe. News is sent to us that influences our outlooks, opinions and actions. This information can be based on past actions or actions taken by others within our bubbles. We share our driving habits with insurance companies and automakers in order to take advantage of new technology and navigation. This allows us to enjoy safer and more convenient transportation. Our entertainment and video games are richer and more personalized. The makers of these products know our socioeconomic profile, movement patterns, cognitive and visual preferences, and can determine pricing sensitivity.
We continue to choose more conveniences and trust machines to get us right. The machine will be able to get to know us in more honest ways than we do - at least, from a rational perspective. The machine cannot account for cognitive gaps between what we claim to be and what we are actually. The machine is based on real data from real actions and constrains us to the things we are, not what we want to be or what we can do.
An AI judges us based on our expressed values, especially those implied in our commercial transactions. However, it overlooks any other deeply held values we may have suppressed or that remain dormant at any point in time. An AI may not be able to account for new beliefs or changes in our values that aren't readily codifiable. It might make decisions about safety that could compromise the safety of others, based on historical data, in ways we might find objectionable at the moment. Complex beings make value tradeoffs in the context of each situation. Sometimes, those situations don't have any precedent or codified precedent. Will the machine respect our right to self-reinvention and free will?
A machine could also discriminate against those with lower health or social standing because it relies on patterns recognition and broad statistical averages. Uber already faced racial discrimination controversy when its algorithms used zip codes to identify neighborhoods where riders were most likely. Will it favor the survival of the fittest or the most loved? These decisions will it be transparent? What is our recourse?

If you want to avoid problems such as strokes and heart disease, there is an easy way.
Get more fruits and vegetables.
Whole grains are better than refined ones. Brown rice is better than white. Switch to whole-wheat pasta
Consider lean proteins such as poultry, fish and beans.
Reduce your intake of processed foods, sugar, salt, saturated fat, and other unhealthy food.
Flexibility is key to eating well, according to Joyce Meng, MD assistant professor at UConn Health's Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center. You can follow a strict diet plan if you prefer. It's okay if you don't like following a strict diet plan.
Tricia Montgomery (52), founder of K9 Fit Club knows firsthand the benefits of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Her favorite things are eating healthy food and making small, frequent meals. She says, "I don’t deny myself anything." "I still enjoy dessert, key lime pie, yum!" -- I love frozen gummy bears and moderation is the key.
Get regular checkups. Your doctor will keep track of your medical history so that you can stay healthy. If you are at high risk of osteoporosis (a condition that weakens bones), your doctor may recommend more vitamin D and calcium.
You may be recommended by your doctor to have screening tests done to monitor your health and detect conditions before they become serious.
Be open to communication. Meng said, "If you have any questions, ask your doctor." "Ensure you are satisfied with the information." Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about any medication or procedure.
Reduce Stress
It can be very detrimental to your health. It is impossible to avoid it all, but there are ways you can reduce the effects. Do not take on too many responsibilities. Set limits for yourself and others. It is okay to say no.
To relieve stress, try:
Deep breathing
Meditation
Yoga
Massage
Exercise
Healthy eating
Talking to a friend or family member.
Develop healthy habits
You can prevent problems from coming your way tomorrow if you make the right decisions today.
Brush your teeth twice daily and floss each day.
Don't smoke.
Limit your alcohol. Limit your alcohol intake to 1 drink per day.
Take your medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Get better sleep. Try to sleep for at least 8 hours. Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping.
Keep out of direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Wear your seatbelt.
Meng suggests that you take time each day to invest in your own health.
Montgomery was able to see the benefits. Montgomery says that she has overcome health issues, is happy, and has a positive outlook. She says that her life has been forever transformed.
