You may find yourself trying help others change in your life. You can be a mentor, parent or spouse and help others achieve their goals. How can you do this best?

Trust is the key to influencing others' behavior. Trust in persuasive interactions hinges on authenticity. This is the degree to which people believe that the person you present fits you. People will be less skeptical of your interactions with them if they feel that you are telling the truth.

This is how you should see yourself and others. What are your motivations? It is not difficult to change behavior if people are willing to do so. If they have reasons to avoid it, or are worried about your motives and intentions, you make things more difficult for yourself.

Each of the above suggestions for helping people change can be used to some extent, but combining them makes it even more effective.

1. Be an example

Start with yourself if you want people to make changes. Make sure that the things they want to see about themselves are things they can do. Failure to do what I say is not a recipe for success. However, this is only the beginning.

Engage in the goals you want your children to follow. Your actions can be a source for goal contagion by others if you lead by example. Your actions can help others see the possibility of achieving a goal.

2. A goal is an end point that gives you motivational energy. Goals that are close in time are more energetic than those that are further away. The greater the impact on behavior, the more active the goal. Therefore, you may be biased against actions that pay off long-term. However, there are other activities you can do right now to reach a short-term goal.

3. Get the right feedback

People can change their motivation and behavior by giving feedback. Feedback can be a way for people to reinforce a "entity mindset," which refers to achievements as being the result of certain traits. You might compliment a friend who is on a diet and eats small portions of fruit at a party. This statement does not reflect the fact that willpower cannot be altered. If the dieter is able to resist temptation in one situation, could that be an indication that his willpower has been exhausted?

4. Encourage good habits

Atul Gawande, a surgeon, extols checklists in a range of situations where the same task must be repeated. Atul Gawande explains how hospital infections can arise when staff members in the ICU have to insert a central tube, which is a thin tube that's inserted in a vein in the chest. This allows medicines to be delivered directly into patients' bloodstream. These lines can become infected and put ICU patients, who are already very sick, in danger.

5. Laziness is a great advantage

People desire to reduce the time they spend thinking about their behavior and the effort it takes to actually act. The desirable behaviors should be as simple as possible, while the unfavorable behaviors should be as difficult as possible.

This is possible by having control over the environment. California prohibits smoking in public spaces, including workplaces. Employees are forced to walk long distances to smoke a cigarette, which can make it very difficult to quit smoking in many situations.

6. Develop support networks

It is a great way to get people to change their behaviour by creating communities around a particular process.

Toastmasters International aims to improve public speaking skills by helping people. Giving public talks is a common stressful event in people's lives. Because the stress of giving a talk in public can cause people to be less productive, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Toastmasters is a group of people who meet together to give presentations and receive feedback from each other. The community helps others become more comfortable speaking in public.

Talking to a friend or family member.

Develop healthy habits

You can prevent problems from coming your way tomorrow if you make the right decisions today.


Brush your teeth twice daily and floss each day.

Don't smoke.

Limit your alcohol. Limit your alcohol intake to 1 drink per day.

Take your medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Get better sleep. Try to sleep for at least 8 hours. Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping.

Keep out of direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Wear your seatbelt.

Meng suggests that you take time each day to invest in your own health.


Montgomery was able to see the benefits. Montgomery says that she has overcome health issues, is happy, and has a positive outlook. She says that her life has been forever transformed.
