Vannes, Brittany's most beloved city, is the perfect place to experience the beauty and spirit of Brittany. You will find the rich cultural heritage of northwest France in Vannes. There is a beautiful harbour that brings the sea into the city center, vibrant students, and a sense historical elegance. Vannes, once visited, is not forgotten.

ARCHITECTURAL GEMS

Vannes is named after the Veneti, an ancient Celtic tribe that traded with Britain. Vannes was chosen for its location at the mouths of two rivers and easy access to the open ocean. Vannes survived the defeat of the Veneti by the Romans 56 BC, but it continued to thrive, in large part due to its harbour.

Vannes was a cathedral city in the 5th century. There were additional buildings built during the 7th, 8th and 9th centuries. If you look at any Vannes images, however, you will see that the town's glory days came in the Middle Ages when wooden buildings started to appear along the cobblestone streets. Timber was the most easily-sourced and transportable material at that time. It was sourced from the nearby forests.

Vannes streets are lined with medieval timbered buildings, but unlike English counterparts, these buildings are brightly painted in blues greens ochres and reds. It creates a vibrant, diverse group of people that are instantly recognisable as Vannes. Place Henri IV and rue Saint-Salomon have wonderful examples.

As you look upwards, you will notice many of these structures seeming to get larger as they rise. However, it is not an optical illusion. This is called 'corbelling'. The upper floors extend out onto the street creating protected walkways in front the shops that would have occupied ground-floor space. The buildings appear to have leant forward almost with every decade, as if curious onlookers are looking at passers-by.

The various sculptured figures that look out from the facades could make you feel like you are being watched. The most prominent landmark in the centre is 'Vannes et sa Femme', which refers to Vannes and his wife. Adorning a 16th-century timbered building at the junction of la rue du Bienheureux-Pierre-Rene Rogue and la rue Noe, this cheerful stone sculpture probably served as a shop sign for the merchant that once stood on this corner many centuries ago. You might be surprised to discover a modestly hidden 15th-century cathedral as you continue your exploration, following cobbled streets and alleyways.

Cathedral Saint-Pierre is a rare blend of architectural styles. It includes a neo-Gothic façade, a 15th-century nave and chapel, as well as a Renaissance-style rotunda.

HERITAGE WALKS

It's possible to miss the impressive gardens and chateau ramparts that line the city's side that lead down to the harbour on your first visit. These gardens are often used for summer events and offer a place to relax, enjoy shade, or just walk towards the harbour. Look for the Garenne washhouse as you cross the gardens towards the port. This is where the locals would wash their clothes in River Marle. Although it dates back to 1817, it looks old and is a beautiful photo spot. You can ask the tourist office about the route from Porte Saint-Vincent Saint-Jean. It takes less than an hour and offers many photo opportunities.

CULTURE & SHOPPING

You'll find a variety of shops in Vannes' heart. There are not only national chains, but many independent boutiques. They're often hidden down side streets and alleyways. It's well worth taking the time to get lost.

CrealOuest is a city of creativity. It hosts a craft market every Sunday in the summer and Les Nocturnes des Artisans on Friday nights in July and August. Craft stalls line up along the harbour.

PEOPLE-WATCH AT PORT

It's a simple pleasure to linger in beautiful surroundings, watch the world pass by, and enjoy the French tradition of "un verre sur la terrasse '...".

FRESH PRODUCE AND MARKETS

Open-air shopping is best done on Wednesday or Saturday mornings. You can browse brightly-baked bread, fresh-baked bread, and fish stalls for the best experience. You can also visit the covered market at Les Halles des Lices (place des Lices), or the fish market at Place de la Poissonnerie to create your own menu.

For women's health, tips for heart, mind, and body - https://www.mpolska24.pl/blog/for-womens-health-tips-for-heart-mind-and-body

If you want to avoid problems such as strokes and heart disease, there is an easy way.

Get more fruits and vegetables.

Whole grains are better than refined ones. Brown rice is better than white. Switch to whole-wheat pasta

Consider lean proteins such as poultry, fish and beans.

Reduce your intake of processed foods, sugar, salt, saturated fat, and other unhealthy food.

Flexibility is key to eating well, according to Joyce Meng, MD assistant professor at UConn Health's Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center. You can follow a strict diet plan if you prefer. It's okay if you don't like following a strict diet plan.

Tricia Montgomery (52), founder of K9 Fit Club knows firsthand the benefits of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Her favorite things are eating healthy food and making small, frequent meals. She says, "I don’t deny myself anything." "I still enjoy dessert, key lime pie, yum!" -- I love frozen gummy bears and moderation is the key.

Get regular checkups. Your doctor will keep track of your medical history so that you can stay healthy. If you are at high risk of osteoporosis (a condition that weakens bones), your doctor may recommend more vitamin D and calcium.

You may be recommended by your doctor to have screening tests done to monitor your health and detect conditions before they become serious.

Be open to communication. Meng said, "If you have any questions, ask your doctor." "Ensure you are satisfied with the information." Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about any medication or procedure.

Reduce Stress

It can be very detrimental to your health. It is impossible to avoid it all, but there are ways you can reduce the effects. Do not take on too many responsibilities. Set limits for yourself and others. It is okay to say no.

To relieve stress, try:

Deep breathing

Meditation

Yoga

Massage

Exercise

Healthy eating

Talking to a friend or family member.

Develop healthy habits

You can prevent problems from coming your way tomorrow if you make the right decisions today.

Brush your teeth twice daily and floss each day.

Don't smoke.

Limit your alcohol. Limit your alcohol intake to 1 drink per day.

Take your medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Get better sleep. Try to sleep for at least 8 hours. Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping.

Keep out of direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Wear your seatbelt.

Meng suggests that you take time each day to invest in your own health.

Montgomery was able to see the benefits. Montgomery says that she has overcome health issues, is happy, and has a positive outlook. She says that her life has been forever transformed.
